An amateur's study of Auld Reekie

An amateur's study of Auld Reekie

Soon, I'll be leaving Edinburgh. The city that feels most like my own, the city that taught me how to survive and have fun.

I've done a great deal of fantasizing about photographing and studying exciting foreign places, to cut my photo-teeth on the exotic and unfamiliar.

These fantasies invariably involve an exciting new full-frame camera with a 35MM prime lens. At least, that is the specification my obsessions lead me to.

This is a character flaw of mine. I must constantly remind myself to use what I have to figure out what I really need.

On this overcast Summer's Sunday, weeks away from the Fringe, I decided to use what I have. Which is an iPhone 15 Pro, and a subscription to Halide.

The point of this 'study' was self-fulfilling. It felt important to simply start, to practice, to use what I have available.

So that's what I did. I started, I practised, and these are some of my favourite shots from the walkabout.
