New Mac, who dis?
I’ve always found new tech to be inspiring.
Beautiful, sure, but not just to look at. It begs to be used, to be put to work. In some way, I’m desperate to prove that it was worth all the money.
There’s real guilt with new tech, for me, anyway.
But why? Aren’t these the tools of our trade? The objects that we spend countless hours a year using?
No self-respecting carpenter would use a dull handplane, would he?
Unfortunately, it’s mighty hard to sharpen a MacBook or make its screen a couple inches bigger. Since it’s all soldered in, you see.
So it’s new laptop day. And I feel guilty, and in awe of the beauty of this thing. It’s bigger, it’s faster, and it has double the memory and storage.
Aside: 256GB of storage, extremely fast or otherwise, should be made illegal by the European Union. It wouldn’t affect me in the slightest since I don’t live there, but it would bring me great satisfaction nonetheless.
There’s something about the more aggressive corners in Apple’s most recent design language. And the juxtaposition of the chamfered, soft edges.
That might sound like total wank, but it’s true. It’s beautifully designed, and I will enjoy my work even more.
Happy new laptop day to me!
